Meeting Leigh Bardugo

Meeting Leigh Bardugo

Though living in the city presents its challenges: traffic, smog, scary strangers; I do love the access to wonderful events. One of those was a book signing by the incredibly talented Leigh Bardugo. I was mildly excited.  The event was held in a beautiful theatre, a sure sign that she is popular. I took this picture after we stood in line for the doors to open. It filled up, and at least 100 to 150 people were there.  Leigh talked…

Utah State Fair

Utah State Fair

When I heard that the state fair was hosting a draft horse pulling competition, I had a minor freak out. The last time I had the joy of witnessing such an event, I was eight years old and living in Kentucky. Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of going again, and have filled Cody’s ears with descriptions of, “They pull in perfect unison,” and “Their butt muscles are huge!” and “The noise of the clanking harness is crazy loud!”. So, 16…

Texas Family Vacation – Part 3

Texas Family Vacation – Part 3

Our final day in San Antonio was spent exploring the town. We began with The Alamo. I highly recommend a trip, and make sure you plan enough time to thoroughly read the information. It was such an act of bravery, and I was in awe of the sacrifice of the defenders. Afterwards, we amble to The River Walk, where we enjoyed Tex Mex food, pretty architecture, and ice cream, of course. With only a few hours before our flight, we…

Texas Family Vacation – Part 2

Texas Family Vacation – Part 2

We left Corpus Christi and drove back to San Antonio. We checked into our hotel and then headed out to The Cheesecake Factory. Then. It. Was. Time. Ed was every bit as amazing in person as we’d hoped. If you get a chance to see him live, do it! Thank you Cassie for the wonderful photos, and thank you Mom for making this dream come true! Ed Sheeran made for an epic way to end the night. I slept hard,…

Texas Family Vacation – Part 1

Texas Family Vacation – Part 1

It was a weird thing, to be lounging in an airport stiff-backed chair, and then see my four favorite people sauntering up, luggage on their backs, and smiles on their faces. But that is a beauty of a family vacation taking place in a whole new state. We began the trip with a joint flight out of the mountains, and into San Antonio. The flight was long, and yet our journey had just begun. A long drive stretched before us…

Cody’s 24th Birthday – Part 2

Cody’s 24th Birthday – Part 2

If I had a dollar for every time Cody said, “I wish I could leap off this (tree/mountain/hill/chair/dirt pile/couch/bike) and fly” then I would have all my student loans paid off. His desire to soar like an eagle is incessant. Hence why his other birthdays have involved air events: parasailing and zip-lining. So this year, I decided to really step it up. I got him a flight lesson. Our little plane’s name was Beth, and she sure was tiny. Cody…

Cody’s 24th Birthday – Part 1

Cody’s 24th Birthday – Part 1

We kicked off the celebrations for Cody’s birthday on Friday night. I made a chocolate-chess pie, with my peanut butter cookie as the crust. It is possibly the best pie I’ve ever tasted, in all humbleness of course. We watched “Lego: Batman” because that is how adults celebrate birthdays. The next morning, we went out for an easy six mile run, that turned into an 11 mile peak-bagging adventure, with some seriously steep switchbacks and truly glorious ridge-running. After the…

Travis and Morgan’s Wedding

Travis and Morgan’s Wedding

“Winter was coming.” – Travis (explaining why he bought an Xbox.) “You’re an ogre, but I like you.” – Chris (we already forgot why. Thanks sleep-deprivation.) “Control your upper body, Ethan. You look like you are driving a bus.” – Marcus Allan teaching the group how to swing dance. “Be sure to help yourself… to a placemat.” – Mum (not offering dessert as we originally hoped.) I will never forget the memories we made (even the ones I want to,…

Logan Camping Trip – Part 2

Logan Camping Trip – Part 2

I woke before Cody and Ethan and Kalyn. I gave a quick head nod to Collin, who was bleary-eyed but sitting up, and then Zara and I went on a quick morning trail run. I returned and we hung around camp until about 9 a.m. when Brad, Secily, and their labradoodle Rue arrived. The whole group together, it was time to hike! When we got back to camp, we nearly roasted to death. We all joined Zara in the shallows,…

Logan Camping Trip – Part 1

Logan Camping Trip – Part 1

Our Bible Study group planned a camping trip. We all wanted to be back in time for church Sunday, so we found a nearby canyon and decided to spend two nights under the stars. It was raining when we arrived, but thankfully it died off. We set up a the tents as a precaution to getting drenched. Well, those of us who checked for tent poles before we left set up. The clouds continued to roll about, making for early…
